Chapter eleven

"I’m here now. Are you going to sit there and look at me, or are you going to talk?" Leah had the nerve to huff at me.

I rolled my eyes. "Lose the attitude, Leah. You know me better than most, so you should have known I would eventually confront you after weeks of avoiding me."

The whole time, I fiddled with the hem of her skirt, not exactly sure what I wanted to say. I just knew that being ghosted had messed with my head. I missed her mean demeanor.

She shot me a glare and swatted my hand away. "Stop! How did you find me, anyway?"

"Simple, I used the 'Google, locate my phone' feature," I replied, shrugging without shame.

She narrowed her eyes suspiciously. "And how did you gain access to my Google account?"

"You logged on from my phone one night, and I just never logged you out." I had her Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok accounts on my phone too. I gained access to those by using her phone to find out her saved passwords on Chrome.

Scowling at me, she held out her hand. "Give me your phone."

I pushed it away. "That’s not happening. you might as well move on."

I watched her cross her arms over her chest. "That’s fine. I’ll just change all my passwords," she snapped.

"First of all, lower the tone of your voice before I lose my temper."

Her eyebrow rose at that. "Are you threatening me, Lucas?"

"Relax, Leah," I waved her off. "You know damn well I’m just venting. I wouldn't physically harm you out of anger."

"Whatever. Just say what you need to say so I can go," she snapped.

I decided that blurting out my thoughts was the best approach. I wouldn't be able to find a way to make it sound poetic or romantic like that guy Larry she was involved with. Being straightforward was best for me.

"All those months we talked on the phone. Did you ever think about us?" I asked.

A moment of silence passed before she responded.

"Seriously? That’s the question you're asking after the scene you made in the café? You could have texted me that."

Sighing heavily, I admitted she was getting on my nerves. Why did everything have to be so difficult with her? With any other woman, I would have given up, but she had me trapped in this weird limbo I couldn't escape.

She sucked her teeth. "Sure, I thought about it, but not seriously. If we were to get intimate and it led to a fallout, then what? My dad loves you like a son. That means I'd have to sit across the table from you, feeling all awkward, at family get-togethers for the next fifty years. No thanks." She said as she got up from the bench.

"You'll pass, huh?" I got up too and invaded her personal space. We were standing so close that I could feel her nipples pressing against my chest. I reached in between us and boldly pinched the right one.

"Stop!" she whispered and swatted my hand.
